We are looking at protecting the rights of communities affected by big infrastructure development. Principal examples include:

  • Palm oil plantations in Kalangala
  • Oil extraction near Lake Albert
  • Exotic tree plantations for carbon trading near Bukaleba (eastern Uganda) and Kikonda Forest Reserve (western)

To fight land grabbing we undertake the following activities:

  1. Empowering communities through trainings and meetings so that they can advocate for themselves.
  2. Dialogue meetings with stakeholders and government officials so that important issues are discussed and resolved.
  3. Research and documentation so that hidden issues are brought to light and become part of local, regional, national, and international dialogues.
  4. Building coalitions with national and international organisations that are equally committed to stopping land grabbing, especially the type that steals from poor, marginalized communities.
